Meet all the animals, the laying flock and the breeding flock and the goats. We’ve written about some of their particular personalities of a few birds and goats we decided to highlight here on the website. They really do have individual personalities!
Currently, we have a herd of 17 Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats. If you would like to read about each of them individually check out the the herdbook. You can click through to information about each goat (as I get them loaded).
There is something called chicken math and the children and I have fallen prey to it. Quite unashamedly, I might add. We have a fairly large flock of laying hens and a small number of roosters that quite gentlemanly protect the girls. We will not keep a mean rooster around here. We have only had one rooster that could not learn to behave and got sent to freezer camp, but usually most of them are able to learn their manners. We have quite a few special chickens that will live out their days with us as pets. We are considering growing out a small flock of meat birds next spring. If you would like to check out our flock you may check out the bird book.
Our funny little flock of ducks. Ducks are the clowns of the homestead. We have a mixed flock of ducks that consists of a trio of Indian Runners, two pairs of Khaki Campbells, two Chocolate Ancona hens, three Silver Appleyard drakes currently in need of a new pond to live on, Ming Ming the Pekin, two small white layers (miniature Pekins), and our bossy head drake Sally (yes he’s a drake) the Muscovy.
